MARTIN VAN BUREN, 8TH PRESIDENT - Martn Van Buren sworn in as President on March 4, 1837. He had previously served as the Vice President for Andrew Jackson and as the chief strategist for the Democratic Party. His inauguration was the first time that an outgoing President (Jackson) and an incoming President (Van Buren) rode together in a carriage to the inaugural ceremony.
