WILLIAM McKINLEY, 25TH PRESIDENT - William McKinley was sworn in as President on March 4, 1897. His was the first inauguration to be filmed by a movie camera. Ironically, his was also the first inauguration where a glass-enclosed reviewing stand was constructed in front of the White House to provide greater security for the newly-elected President.
